This is the word that best describes the CENTURION D-Series interface.  Intuitive.  When you get right down to it, there’s really very little thinking to be done on the part of the user – the controller does it all for you!  From setting the limits to learning additional remote controls, setting up your gate motor using this advanced platform is like having a friendly robot holding your hand and guiding you through each and every step.
But, just in case you don’t know just how easy it is, this tutorial will guide you through adding a CENTURION code-hopping remote control to a D-Series gate motor’s onboard receiver.

1.        Enter Programming Mode by pressing and holding the oblong (centre) button for approximately two seconds.  The words “Setting Limits” will appear on the LCD display.

2.       Press the up arrow once – the words “Remote Controls (Tx)” will appear on the screen.  Press and release the oblong button (this button serves as an “enter” or confirmation button of sorts) to enter the Remote Controls menu.

3.       Add Remote” will now appear on the screen.  Press and release the oblong button.

4.       The controller will now ask you what you want to use the remote for, for e.g. triggering the gate, opening for pedestrians, activating the Holiday Lockout feature, etc.  Say, for e.g. that you wish to press the remote to open, stop and close the gate; you will then select “Trigger Gate” as the primary function.  Once again you will use the oblong button to confirm your selection.

5.       The next screen will display “Time-bar remote:  No”.  If you don’t want to enable time-barring for that particular remote, simply press the oblong button to confirm your selection as being “No”.  If you want to time-bar the remote, press the up arrow so that the screen displays “Yes”, and confirm with the oblong button.

6.       The unit will now ask you to press your remote button.

7.       Press and release the desired remote button(s).

8.       A unique ID will appear on the screen, indicating that the button has been successfully learned.

9.       Now press the round button twice to exit Programming Mode.

10.   Hey presto!  Your CENTURION remote is ready to be used!

  1. Does this also work with other manufacturers's remotes? I have a digi-e-key remote which I use for my other gate motor and I'd like to use one of its buttons on my centurion D5 gate motor (so as not to have to carry around 2 remotes).

  2. Hi there. Thanks for your query. The onboard receiver found on the D5-Evo gate motor is a NOVA, which means it is compatible with the blue and grey CENTURION code-hopping remotes. Unfortunately, your Digi remotes will not work on the built-in receiver. However, it is entirely possible to connect an external Digi receiver, in which case you'll only have to carry around one pair of remotes :-)

  3. Thank you for the quick reply. I'll get myself a new receiver then. Oh & the D5 gate motor is great - recently had a power outage for 2 whole days and the gate motor never stopped working, I'll recommend it to everyone I know.

  6. Hi Jaco. It seems that you're receiver menu has inadvertently been locked. This is a security feature put in place so that other people can't come and learn their transmitters into your system. May I ask for your email address? I can then send you the instructions for unlocking the menu.

    2. Hi Johan. That is very peculiar; any valid remote learned into the system should be able to unlock the menu. What is possible, though, is that you also have an external receiver connected. What do the remotes used for opening and closing your gate physically look like?

  7. Good day, the other day we tried to add remotes to our motor at home, unfortunately only one works the others don't want to work, they did not know which one is the master as there's 4 with 4 buttons, can you please assist with recoding the remotes as only one works now, it is the D5 MOTOR

  8. Hi there George. Sure I can help :-). From what you describe, it sounds like you have a NOVA Voyager receiver. Since you are not sure which remote is the master, I would recommend deleting all the coded remotes and relearning them. To do this, remove the gate motor cover; you will see a small PC board a little bit bigger than a matchbox. This is your receiver (it may be in a black enclosure - you will need to open this). Then - you'll see three pins. The outer pins will be marked J1 and J2. Use the little black plastic jumper to bridge either of them (J1 OR J1, it doesn't matter which) with the middle pin. The little red LED will flash about ten times and then grow solid, indicating that the memory has been cleared. You will now need to code a new master remote. Remove the plastic jumper, storing it on any ONE pin. Take one remote and press and hold any button on it for about six seconds, after which the gate will actually activate. This is your master, and it is recommended that you mark it as such. Next, to code additional remotes, press and hold the master button for about eleven seconds - or eleven flashes of the LED - and then, quickly press each additional button that you want to learn. The receiver will only stay in learn mode for ten seconds after the last button press, but each button press will extend it with an additional ten seconds. It will exit learn mode on its own. If you're still not having any luck, please provide me with your number and I'll get a technician to contact you.

  9. Hi there I'm. A lady trying to understand excatly what you said to George. I bought my blue remote today and trying to programme it. I know where J1 and J2 is as well as the 3 pins. When you say remove plastic jumper if it the black thing of the 3 pins I tried but did not. Howere I did manage to take the whole black (match box size) board and there is a wire beneath. Other than that I'm stuck please help:)

    1. Hi Raquel. Okay could you try the following for me: take the plastic jumper (yes, that is the black thing on the three pins :-)) and put it only across J1 and the middle pin. A red LED should now come on on the receiver. Momentarily press your new remote button. The red LED should flash, meaning that it is has been successfully learned in. You can then remove the jumper and store it on any one pin. If you're still stuck, I can get a technician to contact you. Alternatively, you can phone the technical support help line on +2711 699 2481 any time that is convenient for you.

    1. Hi Juanita

If you have the master, it's pretty straightforward. Just press and hold the master button for about 11 seconds (if you have the cover open, you can count 11 flashes of the LED on the receiver), then release the master button and quickly press and release each new button that you want to learn. 10 seconds after learning the last button, the receiver will go out of programming mode and you can use your new remotes.

    1. Hi Rindt

Thanks for your query. Unfortunately, since it is not our receiver, we do not have the programming instructions for it. However, I'll still try to assist you. On the receiver, there should be three sets of programming pins. One set will have LEARN written on one side, and ERASE on the other side. Use the black plastic jumper and bridge ERASE and the centre pin, wait for the LED to stop flashing, and then remove the jumper. To re-learn the remotes, bridge LEARN and the middle pin momentarily and then remove the jumper. Press your remote button once, the LED should illuminate. Press the remote again, and the LED should flash to indicate that the button has been learned. Here is a link to a video that shows how to learn Digi key remotes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv91e_k2H4g

  14. Hi there,

I have a D5 evo gate motor at my house, my mothers house has the same gate motor and in the next week or so I will be installing another one at my work shop.

The Nova remotes I have are 4 button remotes. Is it possible for me to program button 1 for my house, button 2 for my moms house and button 3 for the workshop motor? I will need to do this on all 4 remotes.

It makes it rather confusing having 3 sets of keys with the same remote on each set and having to try remember which remote is for where.

    Thanks ahead for your reply.

    1. Hi Waylon. That is most assuredly possible :-). As long as all three the motors are D5-Evos, or at least have some sort of NOVA receiver connected to it, you can learn all the buttons of a single remote to different gate motors. If you need any help coding them (though it is pretty straightforward and the LCD screen will guide you), please give us a call on 011 699 2481, or you can email me directly at Charl.Mijnhardt@CenturionSystems.co.za.

    1. Hi Meli. I'd be more than happy to assist! From what you describe, it sounds like your 16A motor fuse has blown, probably as a result of the gate hitting an obstruction and to protect the circuitry. The motor fuse is a slow-blow fuse, and is usually easily recognisable as one that seems to be filled with sand. Replace this fuse, and you should be back in action before you know it. If you're still stuck, please advise on a contact number and I'll get one of our technicians to phone you in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello David. Thanks for your query. Since you have ET remotes, I'm guessing you also have an ET receiver connected to your D3 gate motor? Okay, what you'll need to do is open up your gate motor cover to expose the receiver (a slightly smaller PC board connected to the main controller) and look for three pins. One pin will be marked PED, one will be marked TRG and one will be common (the middle one). Bridge the pin marked TRG and the common one with the plastic shunt that should be resting on one of the pins, and momentarily press each new remote button that you wish to program. Once you have done this, simply remove the shunt and place it one any ONE of the pins. Your remotes should now be working.

    1. Hi Gareth. The VECTOR's onboard receiver is a NOVA code-hopping, which unfortunately means that's it's only compatible with the blue and grey NOVA remotes. However, it is possible to connect an external ET receiver to the VECTOR controller, or you can also standardize on NOVA 😄

  22. Hi There.

I have a Centurion D3 Motor with a D5V1.073 Receiver. I have just bought a Smart Guard Air keypad.

If I bridge the jumper for programming remotes, the red light comes on as it should. I then press 1234# on the keypad and nothing happens.

If I press a button on one of my other remotes the LED flashes to confirm it has received the signal and all works as it should when I remove the jumper.

Either the keypad is not sending a signal or my receiver is not recognising the signal. Please Help.

Just for interest can I fit the receiver found in the Evo motor to my current D3 to enable me to time lock certain remotes?

    1. I have done a bit more digging and have found out that there is a stand alone multiplex receiver attached to the trigger on the motors circuit. When I close the "set" jumper and press a button on a remote it is flashing the red led because it is coming from the other unit.

Does this mean I don`t have a centurion receiver? Can I add one and how much will it cost?

      Delete
    2. Dear Lloyd. Than you very much for your query. It would indeed appear that you do not have a CENTURION receiver. What colour are your remotes? You can definitely attach one to your D5 controller. It would need to be a CENTURION NOVA code-hopping receiver, which goes for around R270 for a one-channel receiver. You can buy them from any of our branches, or from any leading security outlet such as Regal, Stafix, etc.

    1. Hi Francois. Thanks for your query. It is easiest to delete a lost or stolen remote if you know what the remote ID is, but obviously one does not necessarily think of recording this when learning in remotes. Fortunately, there is quite a cool backdoor, namely the Delete-Not-Present feature. This allows you to set a time (say 24 hours) and, if a remote is not used within this time, it is automatically deleted from the system. Hi. I have a d3 centurion gate motor. Last night we had really bad weather and got up this morning wanted to open the gate and it would not open with the remote so I opened the box and there was a 3 amp fuse blown on the board so I replaced the fuse and still will not work. It works from the intercom button and the test button on the board but the remote won't work at all pls help

    1. Hi there, Robert. That 3A fuse that you replaced drives all auxiliary devices such as receivers, keypads, etc., so it would actually make perfect sense that your remotes didn't work subsequent to it blowing. The fact that they still don't work even after you replaced the fuse points to one of three possible scenarios.

      Either:

      1. The fuse has blown again - check and replace if necessary.
      2. The main PC board is damaged around the auxiliary circuit.
      3. The little remote receiver PC board is damaged.

In the latter two scenarios, the equipment will have to be taken in to one of our branches nationwide for checking and repairs. Please visit our website, www.CentSys.com, for a list of our branches.

    2. Thank alot, will shout if I get stuck. Just another questions on a d3 centurion motor i see that they talk about a courtesy light option, but I not sure how it works. As they talk about pressing the remote for 3 seconds, and then release it. But I am not getting it right. My remote got only one push button do I need a remote with two buttons, or what.

      Delete
    3. Hi Andre. Do you have courtesy or pillar lights installed? These will be external high-voltage lights typically mounted on your gate pillars. They can then be wired to your gate motor which will use a relay to switch the lights on and off.

      Delete
    4. Hi thank formthe reply. What is the difference between coutesy light and pilar light, im not sure what is the difference. I currently got a light that when I open the gate the light goes on.
Another question tofor today is on the d5 evo motor, the gate opens from time to time on it own, I have check the trouble shooting and they talking about a faulty rx, but what is that. As this is a brand new motor.

      Delete
    5. Hi Andre. A Pillar Light and a Courtesy Light are essentially the same thing. The only difference is, a Courtesy Light is one that activates when you activate the gate and switches off when the gate stops. It seems that your lights are being used in this capacity. With regards to the D5-Evo opening on its own, this could be due to a number of reasons. Firstly, it is possible that someone (a neighbour, perhaps) has inadvertently learned their remote into the motor's onboard receiver. You can try clearing its memory and then re-learning all your remotes. Do you have any devices connected to the TRG input? What can sometimes happen, especially after heavy rain, is that the cables to these devices get wet and short out, triggering the gate. I would try disconnecting everything from TRG, and then reconnecting them until the problem reappears.

    1. Hi there. It would appear that your neighbours have inadvertently learned one of their remotes into your onboard receiver. This does sometimes happen but, fortunately, it is easy to fix. Simply ask your neighbour to press the remote that opens your gate, then scroll to the Remote Controls matrix on your gate motor controller. You don't need to enter the menu, simply use the up arrow to scroll until you see a grid pertaining to remotes. Make a note of the ID of the last transmitter pressed. You can then go to the Remote Controls menu, select Delete by ID, and just delete that remote. Alternatively, you can delete all remotes currently in your controller, and just re-learn your own remotes. If you need some help with this, you can give us a call on +27 11 699 2481.

    1. Hi Brendan. I suspect you have a NOVA Voyager receiver, in which case bridging any of the pins to common will delete all your remotes. To relearn them, follow this procedure: take one of the remotes (this will become your 'master' remote), and hold one of the buttons in for a period of six seconds - the gate should start moving once the six seconds have elapsed. Now that take that same remote, and hold the same button in for about 11 seconds. After 11 seconds, release the button and quickly (you only have 10 seconds in which to do this) press and release the next remote button you wish to learn in. 10 seconds after learning in the last remote, the receiver will exit learning mode and you can use the gate.

    1. Hi Lourise. Thanks for your query. It would appear that you now find yourself in possession of a NOVA Voyager receiver, in which case bridging ANY of the pins will delete ALL remotes. What you need to do is this:

      1. Do not bridge any of the pins (in other words, leave the shunt on any one pin).
      2. Press and hold a button on any of your remotes for about six seconds. Your gate should start moving and this remote will become the MASTER remote.
      3. Take the Master remote, and press and hold that same button for about 11 seconds (or count 11 flashes on the receiver).
      4. Let go of the button, and in quick succession press and release each new remote button that you wish to add.
      5. The receiver will go out of Learn Mode within 10 seconds of pressing your last remote.

  36. Hi,

I have added a remote to my two D5 EVO's. One motor works fine. The other motor does not close when I push the remote button again. It completely opens and then after a time auto closes. This is a different response then the existing remotes. Can this have something to do with the receiver channel number that is different? Or can I program the button for a certain function?

    1. Dear Reimer. Thank you for your query. It seems that you have hit the nail on the head, and my suspicion is that one remote has been learned in for free-exit (FRX) which will only open the gate, never close it. My suggestion is to go into the menu of the D5-Evo that is failing to close, and then edit the remote button, ensuring that it is set for TRG, and not for FRX or any of the other functions. Should you require any assistance in this regard, please don't hesitate to give our technical support team a call on 0860 003 123.

  41. Hi there,

I have an D5 EVO gate motor and everytime I click to open my gate, it opens my neighbour's gate as well. How do I reprogramme the code so that I am on a different frequency to my neighbour?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi there. Thank you for your query. It would appear that your remote button was accidentally learned into your neighbour's system. It is possible that your button was pressed at the time that your neighbour was coding his or her remote. This does sometimes happen. Your neighbour simply needs to delete all existing remotes, and then relearn them. Kindly provide me with your email address so that I may send you the instructions.

    1. Hi Henry. This seems to indicate that the remote itself is not working. A couple of questions to help us diagnose the cause of the problem:

      1. Does the green LED on the remote come on when the button is pressed?
      2. Is it definitely a NOVA remote? i.e. is it blue and gray?
      3. Do existing remotes work?
      4. Is it a brand new remote?

    1. Hi Kesekang. Thanks for your query. The most common cause of poor remote control range is electrical interference (or "noise", as it is often referred to). Let's start with the basics. Please switch off the mains power feeding your motor (the 220V), and see whether doing so improves your range at all.

There should be a separate, much smaller PC board connected to the main one. That is the receiver which you will use to program new remotes. If there is no such board, it means there is no receiver. Should you require technical assistance, please send us a mail at support@centsys.co.za and we'll get right back to you.

  98. Hi Guys. I have a D5 Evo gate motor and I am having problems programming my remotes. I have recently replaced the battery as every time I tried to reset limits the D5 would start the process, the screen would go blank and it seemed to "re-boot". This morning I tried setting limits again and it worked at last - battery must have got to full charge??? I follow your instructions above but when I press the button an any of my remotes - nothing happens. The screen stays on "Press Remote Button". I have a new battery in my remote. This is not the first time that this has happened. The last time I called a technician. When he arrived the remotes magically programmed - felt like an idiot ::))) - Any advice????

    1. Hi there. Oh dear! Don't you just hate it when that happens? I think we've all been there in one way or another! Tell me, are you using CENTURION NOVA remotes; i.e. the blue and grey ones shown in the article above? We'd really love to help!
